2027 Guber: Oyo Ohanaeze Ndigbo Community Throws Weight Behind Adekanmbi, Presents ‘Kola Nut of Victory’
In what supporters described as a landmark moment ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, the political atmosphere in the state was charged with excitement as members of the Ndigbo community from across the various zones of Oyo State gathered at the Ohanaeze Ndigbo House to express their support for the governorship ambition of Hon. Abimbola Adekanmbi.
The gathering brought together Igbo leaders, businessmen and women, community representatives, youth groups and other members of the Ndigbo community from different parts of the state. The meeting was characterised by speeches, solidarity songs and messages of unity, with Adekanmbi presented as the preferred candidate of the gathering.
In a symbolic traditional gesture, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership presented Adekanmbi with the traditional kola nut of victory, describing the gesture as a representation of goodwill, unity, friendship and prayers for success.
The presentation of the kola nut became one of the defining moments of the gathering, as the leaders emphasised the longstanding relationship between the Igbo community and the people of Oyo State.
Speaking during the occasion, the representatives of the community were said to have urged Ndigbo residing across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State to participate actively in the 2027 election and support candidates according to their convictions and the interests they believe will advance the state.
The gathering also highlighted the importance of peaceful coexistence, inclusion and the continued contribution of the Ndigbo community to the economic and social development of Oyo State.
Adekanmbi, who emerged as the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate in May 2026, has continued consultations and engagements across different communities and interest groups in the state. His campaign has emphasised continuity, inclusive governance and building on existing developmental initiatives.
The Ohanaeze gathering, as described by its organisers, therefore represents another significant chapter in the growing series of endorsements and political engagements surrounding the 2027 Oyo governorship contest.
The event further reinforced the message that Oyo State’s 2027 election will involve extensive engagement with the state’s diverse ethnic, professional, religious and community groups.
The gathering also expressed support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential aspiration, with participants calling on members of the Ndigbo community to consider supporting his bid for the presidency in 2027.
