There is nothing wrong with demanding accountability over the €55 million French loan. Oyo people deserve to know how every euro borrowed in their name is being spent.

 

But accusing Governor Seyi Makinde of diverting the money requires evidence. The purpose of the facility has already been made public: healthcare infrastructure and related medical services.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If SSACO or Senator Sharafadeen Alli has evidence of diversion, let them publish it. Which hospital project has the money been diverted from? Which contract has been abandoned? Which amount has been transferred to an unauthorised purpose?

 

Let the evidence speak.

 

What is more troubling is the political manner in which the issue is being presented. Senator Alli is an experienced politician and former public office holder. He should understand the difference between genuine oversight and an allegation that has not been supported with evidence.

 

Under the issue of moral responsibility, we have not forgotten Senator Alli’s own political record. If he wants Oyo people to trust him with the governorship, then he should bring his records to the table.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What did he achieve as Secretary to the Oyo State Government? What did he achieve as Chief of Staff? What did he achieve as Senator representing Oyo South? How many jobs, empowerment programmes, major projects and meaningful interventions has he brought to his senatorial district?

 

Oyo people are entitled to ask: what have you done with the opportunities you have already had?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We also have not forgotten the circumstances surrounding his departure from previous public office. If he believes his record qualifies him to govern Oyo State, he should be prepared to explain his record and allow the people to judge.

 

Governor Makinde is not contesting the 2027 governorship election. Therefore, the focus should be on those seeking to succeed him and what they themselves have to offer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Oyo does not need politics of suspicion. We need functional hospitals, good roads, quality education, employment and responsible leadership.

If there is diversion of the €55 million, show us the evidence.

 

If there is no diversion, then let us allow the government to implement the healthcare projects and hold it accountable for delivery.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Senator Alli should stop telling Oyo people what is wrong with Makinde and start telling us what he himself has done and what he will do differently.
