US condemns Kaduna attack, urges Tinubu’s govt to address violence in Middle Belt
The United States has condemned the deadly attack on a Kaduna State community and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to tackle the persistent violence targeting Christians in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
The attack, which occurred recently, claimed the lives of at least 30 people, including children.
The condemnation was issued by the US State Department’s Bureau of African Affairs, which said Washington would continue engaging the Nigerian government over what it described as widespread violence against Christians in the region.
In a statement posted on its verified X account on Saturday, the bureau described the incident as tragic and sympathised with the families of those killed.
“The United States condemns the early morning July 27 attack on a village in Nigeria’s Kaduna State that reportedly killed at least 30 people, including children. We express our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.
We will continue to urge the Government of Nigeria to address rampant violence against Christians in the Middle Belt,” the bureau said.
The attack happened when armed men invaded Naridon village in Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area, opening fire on residents before setting houses and shops ablaze.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani denounced the killings and instructed security agencies to step up efforts to apprehend those responsible.
He also directed the state emergency management agency to deliver relief materials to families affected by the attack.
